SANTA FE LITERARY REVIEW

8/12/2025

Well, am I a happy clam, or what? I just received my copy of the 2025 SANTA FE LITERARY REVIEW, Volume 20 in which I am fortunate to have two paintings featured. One with a brief statement by me and the other to go with a short story.
Picture
Picture
That text reads: "A bird does not singbecause it has something to say. It sings because it has a song." Chinese Proverb.
I paint with emothions moving the brush and my favored music playing loudly in my studio. I paint not to give advice, but to garner questions while giving no answers. It is for you, the viewer, to react in a manner that suits your senses.
I paint because it is what I do. I paint because I love the act of not knowing what I am going to paint but letting the paint and the music move me. An accident will happen sooner or later, and since I have been painting for so long, I recognize that and go with whatever that accident has to offer. My ork is inspired by the paine, the music and often by poetry and lyrics.

This Review is available in Santa Fe, NM at the Santa Fe Community College Library as well as at all Santa Fe Public Library branches and at the Vists Grande Public Library in Eldorado...while supplies last. The entire issue can also be read on the website: https://www.sfcc.edu/santa-fe-literary-review/.

An ad and an upcoming exhibit...

I was thrilled to see an ad for my main gallery (RioBravoFineArt in Truth or Consequences, NM) in the summer edition of TABLE, a relatively new 'swell' magazine for Santa Fe lovers. Their ad featured an older work of mine: READY. SET. GO., 40x40" on canvas that I painted after NM's Black Fire in the Gila Wilderness about 6 years ago. Please note the charred cottonwood leaves that fell onto my property miles away in Hillsboro. I am still happy with this painting and here it is in it's half page ad in the magazine. Please contact the gallery if you think you need it.

And on another art front, I am a member of the Border  Artists, located in Las Cruces, NM and we are having an exhibition at RioBravoFineArt in September and these are the paintings I will be showing. Again, a presale always makes me happy.

Hello, friends, collectors, newbies... I have started a small,  6 piece Haiku series of paintings. All 12x12" then framed. Just wanted you to know I haven't melted in the heat, rain is due soon and the bunnies and deer are eating most everything I plant.

First:  Pink, red and salmon
            You there, on my windowsill
            Oh! Geraniums.
Picture

2nd: Basil, so fragrant
          Growing in pots. When flowering
          Time is up.PESTO!

Picture
3: ENERGIES EXCHANGED
     Arms wrapping a tree
     at one with the energies
     gratefully taken.

Picture
4:  Coffee is my drink
      E. Grey & hibiscus teas
      come into play, too.

Picture
5:  Tides go left and right
Maybe it is East and West.
      Do not follow them.
Picture
That's it so far. Hope you enjoyed them. One to go. The haiku is written, now the painting.
Would love to hear from you if you'd like to leave a comment.

2/20/2025

Every year I take out a full page ad in TorC's fun Artists' Directory. This is my ad for this year. The Directory comes out in March and I'm anxious to see it. My 2025 solo exhibit is at RioBravoFineArt and opens the second Saturday of April. The 12th, I'm thinking, from 6-9pm. And I am awaiting the proof of my 20 page booklet with images of the works so will also have that for sale at $25. (the $5. covers shipping).

Giving thanks!

It is the time of year when we need to realize how good our lives are.

At this time I am readying work for my 2025 exhibition in April through March and am thankful to still be painting. I am 'mature' officially now (80 years) and also mature in my work. GRATEFUL!

In readying the work, I am also setting up a small, softbound booklet of ten or so images from the upcoming exhibit. Below is my proposed cover: GREY GARDEN. Acrylic and charcoal on canvas, 48x48". This is my latest painting and the last usually being my favorite. I am calling my exhibit MEDLEY because I have no common theme in all the work, just the common thread of the energy in my brush with the paint and drawing with charcoal in the works.

You'll be hearing from me again as the exhibit nears. Thanks so much for your interest in my work! You make me smile.

The gallery, in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico has had their webmaster, William Brown, put together a Flip Book on me and my art. Hope you'll take a few moments to read my thoughts and enjoy the images. Below is a new piece, not in the book...
